Upcoming concerts by the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra will feature performances by several local artists April 28-30.

The Crescent City concert will be Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m., at  Elk Valley Rancheria, 2332 Howland Hill Road. The other concerts will be in Brookings and Gold Beach.

Christie Lynn Rust, widely respected Del Norte music teacher and soloist, will perform Giuseppe Torelli’s “Concerto in D For Trumpet and String Orchestra.”

Rust’s  major instrument is the trumpet. She previously worked as a professional musician for the Walt Disney Corporation in both Florida and California before taking her 30-year teaching position at Del Norte High School.

She was the director of music at DNHS from 1978 until 2008, instructing choir and band. Currently, she directs the chorale at College of the Redwoodss-Del Norte.

Rust has taken her musical groups to British Columbia, Washington, D.C., Boston and overseas to Germany, Belgium and Austria.

Rust also directs an 18-piece community swing band and directs the hand bell choir at the Crescent City United Methodist Church.

Brookings residents Sue Gold and Charlotte Heatherly, well known for their vocal talents, will perform French composer Leo Delibes’ beautiful “Flower Duet” from the opera “Lakme.”

Gold has been singing since she was a baby, imitating her mother who sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

After performing with school choirs, Gold joined the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir. Since then, she has been a featured soloist at various community events and has sung with church choirs and orchestras. She plays violin in the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra, and sings with the ORCA Community Choir.

Mezzo-soprano Heatherly has appeared in Baltimore and Brookings. While living on the East Coast, she sang with the Frederick Chorale and the Baltimore Symphony Chorus, and was the alto soloist at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Mount Washington.

Since moving to Brookings in 1996, she has appeared in concert at various venues along the southern Oregon coast. She is the founding director and current conductor of Southwestern Oregon Community College’s community chorus, the ORCA Singers, and presently serves as choir director of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookings.  She has taught voice on both the east and west coasts.

The Brookings concert will take place April 30 at 7:30 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St.

The Gold Beach concert will take place April  28 at 8 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 5th St.

Doors will open half an hour prior to the performances. Admission is $10 for adults. Students through 12th grade will be admitted free.

Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased at Gold Beach Book, Del Norte Office Supply and Wright’s Art Supply in Brookings.
