Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Redwood Coast Mac Users Group, formed back in October of 2003, to help out isolated Mac users in Del Norte and Curry counties on the Redwood Coast.
We met in all sorts of places and had members come and go and come back again over the years. As Apple changed its line-up of devices by introducing the iPod in 2001, the iPhone in 2007 and the iPad in 2010, the emphasis on just being a Mac Users Group (MUG) changed to include all of Apple’s creations as more people bought those instead of Macs.
But we survived as other MUGs have faded away due to easy access to information on the Internet, instant help with a Google search and sometimes to just plain old disinterest.
We have prevailed and will keep meeting every month because it’s good to just talk with friends and people with the same interests that we Macheads have.
So, come on out at 6 p.m. to the Del Norte County Library for our special meeting to celebrate our 10th Anniversary and I’ll try to sneak some cupcakes into the library — maybe not to eat there — but afterward outside. We can reminisce about days of old — I have the records of those who attended meetings all the way back to 2003 — or just talk about all the cool new stuff Apple introduced recently, like my new iPhone 5S or the new Mac Pros destined to come out soon with the new operating system, Mavericks, sometime this fall.
Anyway, it should be a fun time, as always. See you there!
