A Gala champagne reception was held Aug. 4 at Crescent Harbor Gallery to officially open the First Annual Photo Show and Competition.
Highlighting of the evening was theannouncementof the winners. Best In Show Award of $1,000, sponsored by the Del Norte County/Crescent City Visitors Bureau,went to hometown photographer Jaylene Brentlinger for her "Dahlia Meditation" color image. Best Of Color award, sponsored by Swanland's Camera of Eureka, was awarded to Carol Baker's image "Puzzled Reflections". Carol was one of many photographers from around the greater region, from the San Francisco Bay Area to Coos Bay, Ore., east to Mt Shasta and the Rouge Valley who entered images for this first annual show.
One hundred forty-six entries were submitted by 67 photographers. The final juried show totaled 84 photographs of all different styles and subject matter.
An image of a "Snowy Egret" by Elden Knauf, was selected the best Black and White, for which he received a $500 check sponsored by The Requa Inn.
A special category, celebratingDel Norte County's150th anniversary, sponsored by The Daily Triplicate, The Del Norte County Historical Society, Rural Human Services and Attorney Gene Schach went to local photographer Betty Depee for her image "Lighthouse Storm," a photo of Battery Point Lighthouse in storm. This photo was also chosen by those attending the reception for the "People's Choice Award," a $150 gift certificate from the Swanlund's and the Nikon Corporation.
