Photos of Crescent City in 1950s sought

A former resident of Crescent City is seeking old photos to include in a Crescent City-based memoir.

Vivian Conterio, of Richardson, Texas, is writing a book based on the early 1950s when she lived in Crescent City with her family.

Specific photos sought include the Nov. 1, 1952, fire that destroyed Del Norte Laundry and the Pacific Engine & Machine Works. Her father, Fritz Juchtzer, was a volunteer fireman in that fire.

Also wanted are scenes of the Nov. 4, 1952, tsunami, including the dock, boats and Front Street during or after the wave; the building of Citizen’s Dock from 1949 to 1950; and the harbor and boats at their moorings from 1949 to 1954. Her father operated a boat, the “Hike” during part of those years.

Conterio can be reached at (214) 707-6394 or by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
