After Rev. Carol Layton finished her 75 water-running laps, she jubilantly announced, “Four months ago I had my right knee replaced, and if it weren’t for this pool, I’d never have recovered so quickly.” She then emphasized, “water ran, not jogged, but ran 75 laps!”
A large number of sponsors, pledges and volunteers supported the Promote Our Pool fundraiser. The proceeds benefit POP’s encouragement of water safety for the youth in our community. Swim scholarships are available at the pool for lessons.
Support also has targeted veterans, the Redwood Coast Regional Center and the swim team. Future support for adult swim lessons and open water safety are to be considered.
We live, play and sometimes work on the water in Crescent City and all citizens should be water-safe.

Teachers Joe Gillespie and Scott Lindsay developed and oversaw the innumerable games and the various run routes for the day. The swim team parents and water jogging afficionados took over the lap counting and the Rubber Duckie Raffle. Innumerable volunteers set up, cheered athletes, manned registration and the games.
“My kids had a blast and we hope you’ll be doing this again, making it an annual event; there were so many activities to do,” said the mom of one of the bike raffle winners.
Promote Our Pool is looking forward to making this an annual event to encourage fun, healthy, physical activities that exploit the incredible Fred Enderts Pool facility and our outstanding Beachfront Park.
