Redwood National and State Parks offer weekend of activities for kids, adults

Redwood National and State Parks offers free programs through the weekend. And explorers can now venture into the Mill Creek Watershed at Hamilton Road 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through the summer.

Junior rangers can take part in "Understory Explorers" at 10 a.m. today at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center and "Amazing Adaptations" at 3 p.m. at the Jedediah Smith Campground.

At 10 a.m., nature walks include "Marvelous Members of the Redwood Forest" at Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail; "Ranches, Roosevelt and Redwoods" at Prairie Creek Visitor Center; and "Owls and Old Growth" at Simpson-Reed Grove.

At 2 p.m., "Lady Bird's Legacy" begins at the Lady Bird Johnson trail and "Stomping in Stout Grove" starts at Stout Grove parking area.

Campfire programs at 8:30 p.m. include "Bearing it All" at Elk Prairie Campground and "The Olympians of Redwood" at Jedediah Smith Campground.

On Sunday, junior rangers can take part in "Millipede Madness and Other Incredible Invertebrates" at 10 a.m. at Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

"Wonders of the Wetlands" starts at Tolowa Dunes State Park at 1 p.m.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include "Old Growth Redwoods: What they are and Why they are Important" at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove trail and "It's a Small World" at the Simpson-Reed Grove.

The campfire program "Don't Make a Banana Slug Split!" starts at 8:30 p.m. at Elk Prairie Campground.

On Monday, junior rangers can join "So You Want to be a Biologist" at 10 a.m. at Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include "Lady Bird's Legacy" at Lady Bird Johnson trail and "Treasures of Time" at the Stout Grove parking area.

The "Baby Animals" campfire program will start at 8:30 p.m. at Elk Prairie Campground.

On Tuesday, junior rangers can join "Betting on Nature" at Prairie Creek Visitor Center at 10 a.m. and "Helping Salmon Survive" at 10:30 a.m. at Mill Creek Campground.

Nature walks at 2 p.m. include "The Redwood Hotel" at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail and "The Secret Lives of Trees" at the Stout Grove parking area.

Campfire programs at 8:30 p.m. include "Giants of Redwood National and State Parks" at Elk Prairie Camp-ground and "All is Not as it Appears: The Coastal Conn-ection" at Mill Creek Campground.
