Redwoods Parks' events begin today

Redwoods National and State Parks begins a weekend full of outdoor events today.

Junior rangers can take part in "Life on a Nurse Log" at 10 a.m. at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center; "Water Wonders" at 3 p.m. at Mill Creek Campground; or "Are We Bear Yet?" at 3 p.m. at Jedediah Smith Campground.

Nature walks will take place, as well. "Wind & Fire: Lifecycle of the Redwood Forest" will start at the Lady Bird Johnson trailhead at 2 p.m. "Seen One Redwood, You've Seen 'Em All ... Or Have You?" will start at 3 p.m. at the Big Tree parking area.

Campfire programs begin at 8:30 p.m. and include "Birds of a Feather" at Elk Prairie Campground, "Wonders of the Watershed" at Mill Creek Campground and "The Bear Necessities" at Jedediah Smith Campground.

On Saturday, a tidepool exploration trip will start at 7 a.m. at the Crescent Beach Overlook at Enderts Beach Road to see the hermit crabs, sea stars and other critters that live in the shallow waters.

Junior rangers can take part in Redwood Bingo at 10 a.m. at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center or in Amazing Adaptations at 3 p.m. at the Jedediah Smith Campground.

Saturday's nature walks include "Old Growth Forests: What are They and Why are They Important?" at 10 a.m. at the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail. "Lady Bird's Legacy" will start at 2 p.m. at the same spot.

"Stomping in Stout Grove" will start at 2 p.m. at the Stout Grove parking lot off Howland Hill Road.

"Redwood Reactions" will start at 4 p.m. at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

Saturday's campfire programs include "Bearing it All" at Elk Prairie Campground and "The Olympians of Redwood" at Jedediah Smith Campground, both at 8:30 p.m.
