Rotary clubs give lighthouse a face-lift |
On Saturday, Sept. 24, 20 members of the two Rotary Clubs of Crescent City, along with a dozen members of the Del Norte High School Interact Club, took on an ambitious project: the renovation of the Battery Point Lighthouse property. The project entailed a complete renovation of the fencing in front of the lighthouse including replacing the rusted screws for the fence boards and giving them a new coat of primer plus a coat of white paint. Most of the picnic benches received a fresh coat of redwood stain and one bench was completely rebuilt. The project included power washing of the parking lot entrance way and modifications to the parking lot benches. Dave Zuber, president of the Crescent City Rotary Club, said, “Rotary is more than giving money to good causes. Its members get directly involved with ‘hands-on’ projects that give back to the community.” Kees Oostra, the chairman of the Community Service Committee of the Sunrise Rotary Club, added that by working together both Rotary Clubs were able to combine their strength to make sure that this community project was successful. |
