Saving lives by working one tooth at a time

Early on in my dental career I would come home and my wife would ask "How was your day?" To which I would reply "You know ... saving lives one tooth at a time." Although this was meant to be a joke, at the heart of many jokes is a bit of truth.

It has been long thought that our oral health and systemic health are linked and more recent research points to several systemic conditions that are either demonstrated in, associated with, or even caused by various oral conditions. A few examples include associations between gum tissue health and things such as heart disease, atherosclerosis, low birth weight and premature babies. Various cancers, systemic deficiencies, and hereditary diseases and often first noted at a thorough dental screening.
