Thank you, Jennifer Wellman, owner of the Chart Room Restaurant, for your generous gift certificate. It was given to the foster grandparent volunteers Saturday, June 8, at our 40th anniversary luncheon. There were about 30 who received this very thoughtful gift. It was very heart-warming and I know all of us appreciated it.

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude to the “Take a Bite Out of Blight Program,” organized by Roger Gitlin who recently helped me remove 4.3 tons (8,620 pounds) of garbage from my property in Crescent City. The amount of garbage at the residence grew larger and larger as the move-out date came closer.
Quite literally what was a large pile of garbage turned into a mountain.
I would like to give my thanks to the following people in the order of their involvement:
• Dave Mason, Code Enforcement Officer, Del Norte County Building and Safety, for advising me of the problem and helping me to get connected with Roger Gitlin.
• Roger Gitlin, Del Norte County Supervisor, for organizing the “Take a Bite Out of Blight Program” and getting me in touch with Mike Justice.
• Mike Justice, director of Our Daily Bread Ministry for producing the workforce. Thanks, folks that voluntarily got the job done.
• Tedd Ward, program manager with the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority and his co-workers who helped me arrange long-distant payment for the disposal of the waste.
Quite often those who help a community go unrecognized for the good things they do and I feel Del Norte County and Crescent City are truly fortunate to have people who are both caring and professional. These people are community-oriented and I truly felt like I was not alone while trying to resolve this issue.
This has been quite an ordeal for me. I am still recovering from financial difficulties and am not sure how I would have been able to clean up what I consider to be my ex-tenant’s hoarding mess without their help. I am sure this unfortunate situation has been quite an ordeal for my neighbors as well and I offer my sincere apologies to them.
