The upcoming Coastal Redwoods Tall Ships Festival in Del Norte is about to be under new leadership as it approaches its scheduled May launch.
Scott Michael Potter, who conceived the event, resigned Friday.
Just whose leadership exactly isn't clear, although Larry Lakes, director of Rural Human Services, is investigating possibilities.
Lakes is a member of the Del Norte Historical Society Board, and acting in that capacity as he "polls the board about options."
"Scott approached the historical society and asked if we would take the leadership role," Lakes said. "Then he asked whether the historical society would take over."
The festival would not be cast adrift because of the resignation, Lakes said.
The festival is planned for May 1-6 at Crescent City Harbor.
