Cleanups are appreciated
I want to express my thanks to all the wonderful folks who have been picking up trash. Thanks to the man and children who pick up trash between Napa and Arlington streets. He’s setting a great example for these children, as well as teaching them to have great community pride. Thanks to the young woman who was cleaning up at the beach by Garth. Thanks to the man who always keeps Sandmine Road clean of any debris (he’s been doing it for years).
I’m sure there are many others in our community who do the same. You’re a great inspiration to us all.
Also, many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to clean up the cemetery. It means so much to so many.
Police help with march
I would like to give a special thanks to Sgt. Erik Apperson and the Crescent City Police Department “Explorer Post 10-8” for taking time to give Del Norte County’s After School Program a police escort during a recent Anti-Tobacco march to City Hall where children from different schools joined together to help spread the word about the horrible effects and consequences of tobacco use.
Kids also had the opportunity to speak with City Council members about tobacco use and advertising in the city.
I was very impressed at the professionalism and sincerity the Explorers showed in doing a top notch job of controlling traffic and ensuring the safety of the children, and I feel it was key in the success of this event. Folks stopped, honked and cheered on the kids in their march for awareness.
Also, special thanks to our City Council members for taking time to hear and educate our future leaders. Those 20 minutes may have easily added 20 years to each of those kids’ lives.
Rappelling training helped
This is just a note saying thank you to the Del Norte County Search and Rescue who took the time out of their weekend to show some Boy Scouts how to rappel off Whalers Island (without getting killed) recently.
Every member of this group should be so proud of the job they perform and the service they provide for this community. The level of expertise and professionalism, not to mention humor, that they show instills a confidence that makes me want to climb up something that I can’t climb down!
The Scouts of Troop 10, and parents, say thank you! You are truly the best!
