Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association features the Vega String Quartet Saturday at its 7:30 p.m. event at Crescent Elk Auditorium.

The quartet of young Chinese-born musicians replaces the Borealis String Quartet, which was forced to cancel its appearance because of a medical emergency.

Vega String Quartet is composed of Wendy Yun Chen, first violin, Jessica Wu, second violin, Guang Wang, cello, and Yinzi Kong, viola.

The musicians performed before an "enthusiastic" audience here in 2003, according to a press release from the association.

The string quartet made their debut on the performing circuit in 1991, when they won the Young Artists Prize at the 40th International Munich Competition. Since then they have "thrilled and delighted" audiences in the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Vega's critically acclaimed Lincoln Center debut followed 10 years later, and a scant year after the group was hailed for its "Triumphant L.A. Debut" by the Los Angeles Times.

The musicians have studied with members of the Amadeus, American, Cleveland, Emerson, Guarneri, Juilliard, Orion and Tokyo string quartets.

Their recent engagements include performances in New York City, Miami, Paris, London, Berlin and Shanghai.

The concert association recently held its kick-off campaign for this year's season.

The season will feature pianist Angela Jia Kim, guitarist Edgar Cruz, the Poulenc Trio and Frank D'Ambrosio. A special bonus concert will be added for membership ticket holders.

New members of the association can attend this Saturday's concert, which is the last of the 2006-2007 season.

Season membership is $40 for adults, $20 for students and $95 for a family, and tickets are available at the door.

Memberships feature reciprocity with community concerts in other cities. A list of those cities is available at the association's concerts.
