Veteran's Stand Down to be held this weekend

The North Coast Stand Down will be held Friday through Saturday at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale. For those in need of free transporation, it will be provided by Del Norte County Vets Service Office coordinated by Dara Saunders. On Saturday, there will be a Tri-Tip Barbecue, other great food and live entertainment will be provided. Veterans organization members are invited to attend as volunteers or to just enjoy the companionship of other veterans.

More than 35 service providers will be offering a wide range of services from free haircuts to benefit information and post-traumatic-stress-disorderworkshops.

There also will be workshops for veteran's spouses and a childrens area providing entertainment while that parents take part in the various services offered.

Veterans are encouraged to bring their DD-214's, or other proof of service, such as military Identification Cards. Proof of military service can be verified at the Stand Down if the veterans know their social security number.

Veterans and their families that wish to attend the event also are encouraged to pre-register by calling 707-444-8271.

The free transportation pick up time for veterans and their families in your area is Friday, June 8, 7 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Bldg - 810 H Street.
