Anita Chen was hailed as a double-child prodigy for her ability to play both piano and violin. Submitted Performing on both piano and violin, Anita Chen will be at the Crescent Elk Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m.
It’s the third Del Norte-Curry Community Concert Association performance of the 2011–12 season, and will feature pieces by Beethoven, Grieg and Corelli on violin and pieces by Rachmaninoff and Liszt on piano.
Chen launched her career as a professional soloist at Carnegie Hall in 2002 at the age of 11, performing with the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble.
In 2006, Chen made her recording debut on the Bel Air Music BAM label
with Russia’s Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Dmitry Yablonsky,
featuring E. Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and J. Conus’s Violin Concerto and
Formosa Capriccio by Albert Markov.
In February 2009, Chen returned to Carnegie Hall and made her recital
debut at Zankel Hall, performing the first half of the concert on piano
and the second half on violin. The sell-out audience responded with a
shouting and stamping ovation and floral tributes.
Born in the United States in July 1991 to Taiwanese parents who are
both musicians, prodigiously gifted Chen began to study the piano at age
4 and, within a year, she added the violin. At age 7, she was accepted
into the pre-college division at Juilliard School.
