Walk is held for AIDS awareness |
Bringing awareness and remembrance to those who have battled with HIV/AIDS, the Redwood Coast Rotaract Club held a candlelight walk on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day. The evening began at the United Methodist Church with a short video documenting the last 30 years of AIDS and the progress that has been made. After an inspirational speech given by Rev. Carol Layton, a group of about 35 people lit their candles and walked down H and Third streets, ending at Tsunami Plaza. After a fundraiser and generous donations from members of both the Del Norte Sunrise Rotary Club and Crescent City Rotary Club, Redwood Coast Rotaract President Samantha Hunt presented a check for $425 to support the AIDS Prevention Program in Crescent City. $75 was also presented to the National AIDS Trust. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for ages 18–30. For more information about how to get involved, contact Samantha at 954-0008. |
