While driving or walking around Del Norte County you might encounter various oddities and structures.

It could be an obscure sculpture, an abandoned building or a mysterious piece of machinery.

Whatever it is, you've probably wondered, "What is that thing?"

To help sate that curiosity, The Daily Triplicate selected some items that you might regularly see but don't know exactly what they are. Our plan is to explain away the shroud of questions surrounding each object and to leave you with the satisfaction of knowing.

But we're not going to reveal any of the answers today. On Saturday, we'll dissipate the fog of mystery by telling a little about each object.
