Times have changed!
In the early days of my nursing career, I was reprimanded more than once for making my patients laugh!
It seemed to me that some cheer would help folks who were in the hospital — but some of my supervisors did not agree.
Tuesday, I had my right hip replaced at Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass. I came home Thursday, a much shorter stay than that procedure used to take.
All in all it was a most pleasant stay despite the necessary pain. Everyone there was just great, but one person in particular made my stay extra pleasant.
His name is Rick. He’s a CNA2. It was obvious he loved what he was doing. Obvious by the care he exercised with every procedure, and even more, he wasn’t afraid to let his faith show as he went about them. And to top it off, it was all done with a constant stream of humor that made the hours fly by.
So I’m home to write this tonight instead of being in the hospital still, and new e-mails have arrived with more good stuff to tell you about.
On the 19th, at 6 p.m., Reach Out Ministries will have an event called The Spirit at Christmas. It will feature music, healing prayer, a message of hope, and refreshments.
This will be held at Crescent City Lighthouse Inn.
Once again, the holidays are arriving and we have friends and neighbors with heavy hearts because they have lost loved ones.
And again, as other years, Pastor Carol at the Crescent City United Methodist Church opens her heart and her church to those who need help to cope.
In addition to the ongoing grief support group on Wednesday nights at 6 p.m., on Dec. 18 a Blue Christmas Service will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 464-3710.
Christmas services scheduling is completed for Grace Lutheran Church for the season:
• Christmas Eve Candlelight service Dec. 24 at 7 p.m., child care provided
• Christmas Day Worship Dec. 25, 11 a.m., child care provided
• New Year’s Eve Worship Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. Close the year in thanksgiving, celebrating the Lord’s Supper for the last time in 2013.
So this is a bit shorter this week. I’m sure next week will bring you more.
