I want to thank Bob Douglas for his May 5 letter to the editor where he advocates for one Internet page that is “frequently updated showing local events, weather, local motels and camping, fishing ocean, river and lake reports.”
Many others have expressed the same interest, that’s why the Crescent City/Del Norte County Visitors Bureau established and maintains the Internet site: exploredelnorte.com.
Here you will find a nine-minute video of a day of salmon fishing on our rivers, along with many other videos that show off our area, plus a listing of dozens of things to do in the county.
Monthly events are highlighted and added daily, including the Ruby Van Deventer Wildflower show, the Crescent City Art Walk and the St. Joseph’s Catholic School Spring Dinner, all being held this week (today and Saturday).
For those who want more information on fishing in our area, in addition to an explanation of the sport season that starts next weekend, you’ll find over 50 articles about where and how to fish in our county, along with the many guide services who can help people catch the really big ones.
If you are looking for activities for those out-of-town relatives who will be descending on your home this summer, consult “exploredelnorte.com” for a Fun Bus Tour, a trip to the Sky Trail above the treetops, or cruising the river on a Jet Boat Tour. If your guests are more inclined to engage in challenging physical adventures, you can go kayaking, river and ocean fishing, and surfing, or hiking and biking on our more strenuous trails.
There is so much in between — from golfing to birdwatching. The website also highlights the many beautiful beaches of our area — perfect for picnics, flying kites, building sandcastles, or taking strolls at sunset.
Mr. Douglas asked for a site that listed all of the local motels and campground. You’ll find these included in the “exploredelnorte.com” site (just in case you don’t want your guests camping with you).
And, while Del Norte County is blessed with some of the most magnificent natural beauty found anywhere in the world, there are even more reasons for visitors to choose us as their vacation destination. For a change of pace from our abundance of outdoor adventures, the website is also a great place to discover delightful shopping opportunities at the art galleries, antique shops, specialty boutiques, and bookstores of the area, to “go back in time” while visiting our museums and lighthouse, and end the day with a delicious meal at our variety of restaurants.
Thank you for the suggestion about the weather. We are in the process of adding a weather link to our website. Meanwhile, we encourage our visitors to visit other sites for accurate weather information. Or, for the most up to date weather, we suggest you pick up today’s Daily Triplicate, where the weather forecast is always listed on the front page, or tune into one of our local radio stations.
In addition to all of the great information for visitors on the exploredelnorte.com website, be sure to check delnorte.org, the website for the Crescent City/Del Norte Chamber of Commerce, which features a wealth of information for visitors, newcomers, and local residents.
Bob Berkowitz is the executive director of the Crescent City/Del
Norte County Visitors Bureau.
