Plans are underway for this year's Fourth of July festivities. The 2007 Planning Committee is working hard to make this year's celebration a very memorable experience for visitors as well as our local community. Not only are we focusing on attracting visitors to our community, we want to focus on our community members we want you to have fun this year down at Beachfront Park.
As with any large event, many ideas are suggested, so the committee wanted to take our ideas to you for your input. Here are some activities that we would like to have happen:
Kid's activities, such as three-legged races and a bike rodeo
Coast Guard demonstrations
National Guard demonstrations
Native American dancing
Hot dog eating competition
Pastels in the park
Wood carving contest
Log pond contest
Burn out competition
Part of the goal this year is to capture our colorful past and to display what our area represents. So, we ask you, what do you think? And, if you have any experience with any of these activities, we would love to have you join us in making these happen.
On top of these other activities, we still will have the Annual Deck Party on July 3. This year it will be at the Downtown Plaza. There will be a Pre-Deck Party Art Show at the Cultural Center from noon to 4 p.m., hosted by the Crescent Harbor Gallery. And as always, the After Deck Party Dance is planned at the Fairgrounds.
On the Fourth, we will have our parade down H Street, the ice cream and pie social at the museum, and our festival complete with marketplace, food and game vendors at Beachfront Park. Churches and non-profits are encouraged to become vendors to support your organization. Potential vendors can pick up an application at the Chamber office on 1001 Front St. Parade participants pick up your entry forms at the Chamber, too.
Entertainment is going to be impressive this year. We are seeking sponsorships to bring the Platters back to Crescent City for the Deck Party and on the Fourth. And the finals for KPOD's Colgate Country Showdown will be on the main stage on the Fourth. A performance by Lighthouse Repertory Theatre and Karaoke by Juwat will also be available. There is room for other local bands to be showcased on the main stage during the day.
The fireworks show will once again be performed by the talented company Fireworks by Boom Boom Inc. and will time the fireworks to music played on KCRE.
Sponsorships are needed to make these events happen. Businesses as well as individuals can contact the Chamber to sponsor the event as a whole, the fireworks, or any particular activity. Special thanks to Elk Valley Rancheria and the City of Crescent City, sponsors for the fireworks show.
Along with sponsorships, volunteers are also greatly needed. What is your specialty? Do you bartend, love to work with children, can you help pick up trash, or coordinate one of the many activities? Join the committee be a part of our community's tradition.
