Letters: Beware of scam involving new cards for ‘Medicare'

A few days ago I received a telephone call from a man with a heavy accent.

He said he was a Medicare representative and that he wanted to notify me that I was to receive a new "Medicare" card that would give me more coverage at no extra cost.

He said that he would need a credit card number to verify my identification. I told him that I did not give out that information over the phone. He then became very agitated and insisted several times that I must give him my credit card number. After refusing several times, I finally told him that this conversation was over.

After I hung up I called Medicare and they verified that no such new cards were forthcoming.
