Letters: Car club is right to be fed up with increased regulations |
Way to go city Planning Commission and Chamber of Commerce. Invent new ways to chase clubs out of the area. Perhaps the trees in the park were failing as a natural cycle. How much effort does it take to replace one after it dies? Is that cost more than the local business income generated by the Sea Cruise car show? Not likely. Maybe the park needs more use-regulating groups? Nobody is regulating grass growth, tree ring growth, seagull populations or numbers of people walking on each square yard of the park. The car club is obviously disgusted with various restrictive permits that did not exist in previous years. Good reason to abandon the regulation inventers and move elsewhere. Maybe the fairgrounds, one of our local casino parking lots or a private field. Anywhere with only logical prerequisites determined by good common sense. Let the regulators enjoy the public wrath of lost business from another good money maker run out of town. Another good example of selective regulation is restricting the expansion of Wal-Mart based on invented dangers to a small nearby creek when upstream 100 yards, the creek is ripped to shreds with uncontrolled bulldozing to access new homes under construction. Tons of dirt and debris will be washed into the creek and kill anything living there. Bob Douglas Smith River |
