I want to question the "creation" of the good public servant image that our city clerk and City Council have recently presented. Let's see, Diane Nickerson, our city clerk, came forward to voluntarily reduce her hours. Very commendable on the surface, since the City Council members were at the same time considering pay raises and increasing their benefits. It would seem that Diane was rocking the boat, so why then, did the City Council so quickly agree to a future reduction of her hours? Then another possible motive behind this activity at City Hall came to light. Seems that Joei Sanchez has filed to run for city clerk. The same Joei Sanchez who blew the whistle on the City Council's questionable annuity problems. The same Joei Sanchez who was terminated soon after. Perhaps this answers the question as to City Hall's quick action to sabotage the city clerk's hours. They're probably in panic mode that Joei Sanchez will be elected our next city clerk. As for myself, I believe that Joei Sanchez's election would mean that finally the citizens have an advocate to protect them from City Hall shenanigans. Actually, her election to office is probably more important even than replacing the council members—although I strongly suggest a clean sweep of all incumbents Nov. 4. James Snow Crescent City |
