Letters: City planner has gone too far to protect Beachfront Park |
This is in response to the latest regarding City Planner Will Caplinger and his "Don't park in my park under my trees; you hurt the root system and they fall over in a windstorm and die." I let the other times go by about Will and his trees. This time you got to me and I'm not letting this go by this time. This letter is going to The Daily Triplicate. Here is this 30-year experienced arborist and city planner who doesn't take into account that maybe when we lost all those trees that the ground was rain-saturated and they couldn't stand up to the high winds that knocked them over. If I'm wrong, how come the trees across the road surrounded by concrete also blew over, or the trees in the green belt across from the harbor where only the riding lawn mower goes? They also lost about the same percentage of trees. Maybe you need to plant a more suitable tree for our area that can hold up to high winds and wet ground. Please remember this is the people's park and not Will Caplinger's park. Where does it stop? Who's next, the sport activities? Yes, Will Caplinger, you're trying to protect the park, but it's overkill. Think about the city and businesses and everyone that can get hurt from lost wages and resources that the city and businesses get from these activities. John Cornejo Crescent City |
