Letters: Connection between STDs and homosexuals is misguided

I don't doubt that what letter-writer Rogie Shutt ("Support marriage amendment opposing gay unions," July 2) says about the increases in certain diseases is true. However, the fact is, that the majority of the people in the world today who have the HIV virus, or full-blown AIDS, are heterosexual. So how does supporting the marriage amendment act have anything to do with this increase in disease? It doesn't.

As a matter of fact, allowing gays to marry would help prevent the spread of disease by allowing people to live a healthy, monogamous life.

Don't support the marriage amendment proposition.
