I have just finished writing a letter of protest to the city of Crescent City stating that my wife and I do not want an increase in our sewer rates. Many years ago, all the people of the city paid for our water and sewer plant, why would we want to pay again?
I ask the people, do your toilets flush now? Do you have clean water now? All say yes, then why pay more money?
I'll tell you why. Because people like our city engineer Jim Barnts, who has interest in the new subdivision behind Wal-Mart needs many (sewer) hook-ups.
Talk about a conflict of interest. Our city council should have been up front with the people and put it to a real vote.
Not the tainted way they're trying nowone piece of paper folded like junk mail, so most throw it away. (The paper) Asks us to write to them to protest, knowing darn well most will not take the time to do so.
Developers and landlords and realtors will prosper, yes. But what about people on fixed incomes?
Are they going to choose between buying food, prescriptions or being able to flush their toilets?
The city says $42,500. If you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you. It will end up a lot more than that. This thing is being crammed down our throats and I personally don't like it.
Any city council person that's in on this should be ashamed of themselves. We have city managers and city planners who tell the city council what to do. It's supposed to be the other way around.
Wake up city council, it's time the people take back their city. I am sure they love it as much as I do.
