Letters: Doctor's office no-shows need to take responsibility |
I work in a doctor's office at the front desk and I would just like to express my frustration with the patients out there who do not keep their appointments. I am not talking about those of you who call in and cancel or reschedule your appointments, I am talking about those of you who just don't show up, and there are a lot of you out there. Our office calls every afternoon for the next-day appointments. I can understand this totally slipping your mind one time, but for some people this is a habit. We do keep track of this information and we let the patients know about their no-show abuse and then let them know what will happen the next time. People complain about the doctor shortage and/or having to call in on the day you want and hope there is an opening. You may think it is not a big deal if you don't show up; doctors make all kinds of money. How would you feel if you had a business and your clients did not show up? You still have to pay your staff, rent, electricity, heat, insurance, etc. It's a big deal! So the next time your doctor's office, hairdresser or anyone else you make an appointment with sends you a bill for a no-show appointment, or says sorry, you will have to go elsewhere, please remember this letter and be more responsible and mindful of all your appointments.
