Letters: Downtown businesses are moving in the right direction

Lately, every time I go downtown, it is something to brag about. Chere's Boutique now looks like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. I think that Chere has the right idea. Now Johnston's Home furnishings has great signage! We don't need a sign to the business district, we need a sign that says old town. When I think of old town I think of great place that my mom told me of. It is a place where a person can buy things that cannot be found at a chain store.

I read that we don't need anymore Chinese poison products and that would be the next great shop for our old town. I do not have that kind of money, but for a person that does, a made-in-the-USA safe toys store would be the next great store that we could have!

There are toys guaranteed to be made in America that are up to U.S. standards and right now they are only sold online if you have the time to do the research. That might be something that the next investor might think about bringing into our town!

We will never rock the world if we stay closed-minded. Everyone is going to shop at certain stores to save money, but it is the extra money that they will spend in our unique shops as they come into the old town area to keep looking at the next great ones that are coming in! Everyone needs to remember, appearance and customer service matter.

My mom was a waitress and she refuses to go back to any restaurant that is not putting the customers first. She is down to two great places to eat because she told me that it is all about two things, atmosphere and having consistency. Her remarks have always been, there is no room for bad or pompous wait staff. We may be rural, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't have class.

Vandalism is now the headline. I enlarged the photo of the person vandalizing Starbucks and to my horror it was not a juvenile, but an adult man! I would ask, are we that kinder gentler, touchy, feely rural town? I have never known a time when Crescent City didn't have problems, but is cleaner than I have ever seen it.
