Letters: Gallery not the only tenant dissatisfied with harbor |
I was sorry to read the letter to the editor about a lease increase the harbor is trying to impose on the Coast Redwood Art Association. I would not like to see them leave the harbor. It is the perfect place for art. We are also harbor tenants. Our RV park faces South Beach. Some of our summer tenants who don't fish go to the gallery for art lessons and for the enjoyment of fellow artists. We built "Harbor R.V. Anchorage" in 1977. The RV park pays 21 percent of gross incomefar more than any other harbor tenants. We have always had a 10-year option, which they will not honor now. When we asked for the option they said they want to buy us out and that they are getting the property appraised. At this point they refused to meet with us again. The park has been a real struggle until 2004. Nowadays our lease payment runs from $4,000 to $5,000 monthly to the harbor. The harbor will die under today's guidance. It is now applying for an RV park permit for permanent cabins, which they plan to maintain and run themselves. The truth is, they are unable to maintain and clean their own restrooms. The harbor doesn't have the money to buy the cabins they want to call RVs. So whoever you are, think twice! Art Association, consider yourself lucky. At least they talk to you about your lease. It's time for the remaining few harbor tenants to start working together for the harbor's best interest. There will be four open seats for harbor commissioners this fall. Think about it.
