Letters: Gay marriage grows economy, but divorce rate will rise

While gays and lesbians are clamoring to get married, heterosexuals are happily moving in together—buying homes, having children and so forth without a thought of marriage.

According to last year's statistics, the divorce rate has gone down. Of course it has gone down. People aren't getting married. Duh.

But now the California Supreme Court, in its infinite wisdom, has ruled that same-sex couples can marry in the state of California. Whoopity doo! California doesn't have a registry requirement, so same-sex couples from all over the U.S. can run to California and be married. Should help our economy—$60 per license is the fee. So the ruling benefits California. That is good.

And now we can all sit back and watch our economy grow and our divorce rate go back up.
