Congratulations to the "powers that be" for settling the city park/car club crisis before it actually got to the point where Sea Cruise was moved or cancelled. I remember when the park was, for the most part, used one day a year. Thanks in part to the soccer field and the car show, it gets more use these days. I'm not calling anybody stupid or even less than a tree expert, but let's get real, folks, the ugly bull pine trees simply got too big and top-heavy to withstand 50-mph wind with a root system growing in nothing but sand and 1 foot of topsoil. I suggest replacing every pine tree with a cypress tree. Monterey cypress trees never get blown over. They probably have the biggest and strongest roots of any tree in the world. Perhaps some eucalyptus and alder trees would look nice, too. They would probably cost little or nothing at all and they grow fast. Mix in a few willow trees and a palm tree or two and we would have a nice-looking city park. Also, don't plant them in nice perfect rows. Just a suggestion. But then again, I'm no expert.
