Letters: Historical Society Museum full of Del Norte treasures |
As a volunteer at the Del Norte Historical Museum, I have to share my enthusiasm about the treasure that Del Norte Co. has in the old hall of records/sheriff's jail on H St., Crescent City. There is such a broad collection of historical items, including the big, original lens from the St. George Reef Lighthouse. The volunteers can answer a lot of questions that visitors ask, but the various displays are very well-described on their own. The many souvenir items that are available at the gift shop for purchase make memorable presents or keepsakes. Also, the many books that are available, including the three factual histories by author Dennis Powers. Research on many subjects are done by the volunteers, by benefit of the big collection of files. Births, weddings and deaths, as well as high school graduation yearbooks, newspapers, dating back forever, make up some of the files. Come visit the museum Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Bob Ames Volunteer Crescent City |
