Letters: It is unjust for police, DAto make and execute the laws |
I would like to give an eighth grade-level civics lesson to the Board of Supervisors. In case you people have forgotten, under our system of government there are three separate branches. The courts interpret the laws; legislatures and boards of supervisors make and pass the laws and the regulations. Most importantly, the third branch of government, the executive branch, which includes presidents, district attorneys and police officers, is given the authority only to execute and carry out the lawsnot interpret them in different ways in different situations. The reason for that is so that justice will be equal for everyone and not different for some. To make this simple for those on the board, you need to set the limits under the marijuana regulations and not pass the buck to the district attorney and police officers because that is an illegal delegation of power. You are paid to set the limits and regulations. The people do not trust the cops or the district attorney to do so and the DA has no legal right to decide that because then he would be making the law and executing it. It would be a violation of our civil rights to let the DA both make the laws (which the Board of Supervisors is being paid by us to do) as well as for him to execute them (which he is being paid to do). This is unjust! Why is this so hard to figure out? I learned this all in the eighth grade. Carrie Borges Crescent City |
