Letters: Marie Antoinette has been reincarnatedin the form of Gov. Schwarzenegger

Did you know that Marie Antoinette (the naive and frivolous Austrian princess—remember her?—beheaded during the French Revolution in the 1790s) has been reincarnated in the form of Arnold Schwarzenegger?

Mr. Schwarzenegger proposes cutting state workers' pay to $6.55 per hour, until the state budget is balanced. Has he no clue how expensive gas and diesel cost here in Crescent City? It's tough enough already just to run the children to school and get to work on time!

Along with fuel prices, food prices are going up. Public schools don't receive one-third of lottery money, as was intended. Heck, I'm donating arts and crafts supplies and books to public schools and the library.

Mr. Schwarzenegger might just as well say in public, "They have no bread? Let them eat cake."

I am a native-born Californian, a U.S. citizen by birth. I'm disgusted at what is happening in my home state. Mr. Schwarzenegger is not much of a solution, nor are the senators and Congress members who vote themselves a pay raise, then go on vacation for a month.

American citizens do not behead bad or misguided leaders. However, we have unions and the right to protest verbally, vote and demand decent wages.
