Letters: Nothing is wrong with locals, but we need better tourists |
There is nothing wrong with the local people that needs fixing in order to attract travelers. I invite anyone to stop into the Spirit gas station, for example, on Hwy. 101 and be impressed by the kind of people who work there for minimum wage. However, if you want to attract a better class of visitor, and I wish you would, you need to offer a less coarse form of entertainment than a booze fest and a parade consisting mostly of trucks. The people you attract despoil the air with their cigarettes and then drop them on the ground where the toxins in the filters find their way into the water table. They have trashed the beach with large empty fireworks boxes and other leavings despite all the trash barrels placed conveniently. Visitors who disrespect the ocean and the denizens therein don't deserve to be here. A lot of money was spent on harboring people who spent little and took much. Elizabeth Caffrey Crescent City |
