Letters: Options for New Year's Eve events are fun and purposeful

For those who wish there were more fun events and entertainment venues to enjoy in this community, take heart ... it's happening. This New Year's Eve there will be not one, not two, but three major events taking place to ring in the New Year with a bang.

As someone who values and strives to provide good entertainment (indeed, it's our business), I want to personally acknowledge these three events, and thank the people who are working hard to make them possible:

1. The Redwood Mural society proves New Year's Eve can be murder at their Murder Mystery dinner theatre show, taking place at the Del Norte Senior Center. It's an evening of food, fun, and foul play. Hats off to the creativity and hard work that's going into this unique offering for the sleuth in all of us.

2. The Del Norte High School Football Booster Club returns with their annual New Year's Eve fundraiser, for those of you who love to party hearty. Head over to Del Norte County Fairgrounds, and show your team spirit by joining with other Warriors fans for a night of "Top 40" dancing, prizes, and refreshments in grand "pep rally" style.

3. Del Norte Sunrise Rotary and Crescent Sound & Entertainment invite you to join us in honoring our U.S. military at "Party with a Purpose." Your ticket purchase will help make our beloved Veterans Monument Project a reality.

It's an evening of elegance and inspiration, featuring a tantalizing dessert bar, cocktails, dancing, raffle prizes, and a preview of the Veterans Monument itself. So, come "Party with a Purpose" this year, at the Cultural Center.

If you're thinking, "Which event do I choose?" I remind you that there doesn't have to be just one. Begin your evening at one event, and then end it at another. And remember, just purchasing a ticket supports the fundraising efforts of these good folks, even if you can't attend any event at all.

Bottom line: There's something for everyone this year, so go out this New Year's Eve and have a blast.

Thank you to each of these organizations for working so hard to provide great entertainment to our community, and allowing us the joy of contributing to several worthy causes.

A special thanks to Terri Colton for letting Rotary "borrow" the Cultural Center, this year. Your support of our vets is greatly appreciated by many.

Talk about team spirit!

Happy New Year, everybody!
