Letters: Parents working different shifts isn't always feasible |
I have sat back and read the letters to the editor lately (the group of letters kicked off by Tony La Torre). However I now feel the need to interject my opinion after reading Stephanie La Torre's letter. I believe everyone has the right to their own opinion, and we are protected by the first amendment to the Constitution in stating them. However, as a courtesy, people should hold there opinions of things and people they do not know. Recently a friend of the writers mentioned above stated they have no kids; which explains their stands. I wish to state that yes, I agree with some of the things they have stated, however, I don't agree with their stance on day care or working parents. In the recent letter, Stephanie all but suggested that parents work different shifts. Been there, done that! Based upon that I wish to say working graveyard shifts, coming home to get three hours' sleep, getting up with the kids and then doing it all again the next day is not the best solution. Before you say, "You just weren't used to it," I did this for two and a half years. Yes, it is best in theory if a parent can stay home; however, it isn't always feasible or the best option for the health of the parent to not use daycare. I do agree with the La Torres on the issue of rap music, it is inappropriate and usually vulgar. However, other people's choice in music does not concern you or I as long as they are not blasting it for the world to hear (as some do). I do not wish to offend anyone with this letter, I just had to get my view as a parent out there. Jason Walker Crescent City |
