Letters: RV parks, private campgroundsoverlooked in Triplicate |
This letter is in reference to the article on the front page of the Aug. 29 Triplicate titled "Labor day camping? Time to get a spot." My husband and I have had an RV park in Klamath since May 1995. Every spring we have to endure an article in The Triplicate about the state and federal campgrounds with no mention of all the private ones. We are not asking for free advertising, but if you read this article, one would assume that these are all of the campgrounds in the area. As a matter of fact, there are 1,500 campsites and 60-plus rooms in the Klamath area. This does not include the private parks in and around Crescent City. We pay our taxes and are members of the Crescent City Chamber of Commerce. All of our campers get a map of Del Norte County, marking all the things to do and see, plus all the stores for shopping from groceries to hardware. We encourage people to see the sights, go to the restaurants and the state and federal parks. Our business has been very slow this summer due to high gas prices and the economy in general, and this we understand. What we don't understand is the constant failure to acknowledge all of the accommodations of private parks in Del Norte County, not by name, but just to note that we exist. All we ask is that you recognize and support us as we try to support you. Tom and Carolyn Atlas Klamath |
