Letters: Recent letter writer shouldn't judge people he doesn't know |
As I was reading an old newspaper I hadn't gotten to reading yet, I came across the letter to the editor section and I was shocked. In regard to a letter written by Tony La Torre ("Residents here need to learn common sense and decency," July 4), who are you to tell parents not to work to support their families or single parents to give up their children? Also, to lose respect for someone you don't know because of their child's musical interestthat's ludicrous. I have never read something more wrong in my life. As a 24-year-old single mother who has day care for her child, I guess I am the ultimate opposite of common sense and decency in your eyes. I am proud to say that my 4-year-old and I have a wonderful loving home, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. I am sure many will agree that not all of us can be well off so that we don't work and can stay at home. My day-care provider is an extension to my family, and I work because I have to and I like to. Who are you to judge so many people you do not know? For all those who were offended by that letter, I will say one thing: allow the goodness that is within to shine through your genuine courtesy, kindness, respect and consideration.
