Letters: School board not taking action regarding fire at McCarthy |
People need to wake up. As taxpayers, we need to start to ask questions of people who we put in office. A good example is our local school board. Recently, there was a fire at a school. But they have not made a decision when they are going to replace this school with its classrooms. Few people are aware that anything happened at McCarthy Center. Is the reason that our local school board members are not doing anything at McCarthy Center because of the kind of young people that go to this school and the bad rap we give them? Troubled kids. If any group of kids needs the best education we can give them, it should be the boys and girls at this school. Or, has the school board wrote them off as being drop-outs? I am sorry to say we have one of the worst school boards in the State of California. We keep electing the same people over and over again. They spend millions of dollars for what? They have not kept up their building's upkeep and now they want us to pay through the nose for their lack of care. Enrollment is down at some of their schools. More and more parents are pulling their children out of our school system to home school them. We have a high drop-out rate for our high school. Can we do better than this? What's sad to me is the resources we're wasting. Too many of our Johnnys and Sallys cannot read, or write, or add and that puts them on our welfare rolls. Maybe then the Johnnys and Sallys of Del Norte County would have a future. We need to be demanding that before the end of August the young people who are enrolled at McCarthy Center have the best classroom in the county so they can turn their lives around.
