Letters: Thanks to Fourth of Julyvolunteers, especially Ray's |
I just wanted to take the time to thank some folks that were involved in the Fourth of July celebration that helped make it so special. I have been in Crescent City for two years, but this was my first Fourth of July. I worked with the Chamber on the event and was so amazed at how many volunteers it took! The Chamber Board members worked tirelessly. I mostly want to give Ray's Food Place major kudos! Two weeks before the Fourth, the Chamber found itself without food for the VIP tent. The VIP tent was to thank the people who not only worked on the Fourth of July weekend, but also to thank the businesses that gave monetary donations to the Chamber for the celebration. When I walked into Ray's I was praying that we would be able to get their BBQ for that night and figured if we were really lucky maybe they would donate some of the food needed. I never expected what came next in dealing with the store manager, Walt Blind. I found out that Ray's is all about the community. Walt enlisted all of his department heads to help out. They stepped up in a big way. From his assistant manager, Adam, who towed the BBQ to the event site; Big Dog Tony, meat manager; Wendy the deli manager; and last but not least Chuck who donated his time and barbequed for all of us. I want to add that I don't know these names because I asked. I know all of these people's names because every time I walked into Ray's for two weeks they were there to help, and never made me feel like I was imposing. Thank you to everyone! I'm still in awe.
