Letters: There is no place fordoctor approval' marijuana |
Shame on you Mr. Bill Stamps, Jr. In June you went in front of hundreds of students at Del Norte High School and announced your plans for a teen center where drugs and alcohol are not allowed. A place teens could be safe, hang out and have fun. You have become a leader in this community. People have not voted you in that position. You put yourself there. You put yourself in front of our children as an example, a role model, a leader. I do believe there is a place for medical marijuana. A loved one had non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The pain she endured was awful. There is no place for "doctor approval" marijuana, and no place for leaders setting bad examples in front of "the future of Crescent City," our children. I ask you, Mr. Stamps, Jr., while you're in your 30-day home-study diversion program that you visit First 5 of Del Norte County. Sit in on teens discussing issues they face, how hard peer pressure can be. Drugs, alcohol and much more. While you're there, go next door where the teens' parents are discussing how to keep their kids focused and off drugs. How about Juvenile Hall, or go behind a local grocery store where teens are relieving their stress with smoke before they bed down in the bushes for the night? The real heroes need to be thanked for all they do, drug-free. Thanks to the parents and their teens. Each of you inspired me to write this letter. Never give up the fight to do what's right and keep our kids drug-free. Summer Moore Crescent City |
