Letters: Two challengers are feedingvoters a load of baloney' |
It's election time and we are being fed a load of baloney by challengers Slert and Norton. First slice of baloney: They say they want airport improvements now. Don't we all? However, these improvements depend on federal approval and federal grant funding. The county doesn't have the money. Since the challengers have an aversion to getting grants, where do they expect to find the money? Martha McClure spent many years of hard work laying the groundwork and now that it is in sight they want the credit. Unfortunately, their attitudes and approach will just delay the process. Next slice: "Back property rights." What is this a code word for? I suspect it is pandering to absentee land speculators who were suckered into buying unbuildable lots out at Pacific Shores. Another slice: The challengers want city-county cooperation and consolidation of services. No comment needed. It is already happening. Working out the details takes time. Next slice: Slert advocates a local veteran's health clinic. The Veteran Administration operates the medical clinics and is already exploring establishing one in Crescent City. Once again, thanks to Congressmen Thompson, it's already happening. Final Slice: Slert wants to build a bridge out to the Battery Point Lighthouse and put up a gaudy welcome arch. Looking at concept drawing, the bridge would overwhelm the lighthouse as well as lessen its historical and tourism value. Where's the money to build this coming from? (Not grants! No never!) We're getting a lot of baloney from these two challengers. Sarah Sampels Crescent City |
