Letters: Using raw milk has beena positive experience |
After reading the article titled, "Illness halts raw milk program," I was deeply saddened. I felt compelled to set a few things straight. First let me share my experience with raw milk. My family and I started drinking it, from Alexandre Dairy, in 2005 and instantly loved it. I have carried two very healthy babies to term and breast fed two healthy babies while drinking it. My 19-month-old son has never had any milk but raw milk. First breast milk and then wholesome, organic raw milk from the Alexandre dairy. We have never had any problems while drinking the milk. Since the discontinuation of the cow-share program I have found an alternate source of raw milk from another dairy in California. Many other families were faced with the same dilemma as we were: "How and where can I get more raw milk?" Some families have resorted to purchasing their own cow or goat to make up for the lack of milk, knowing that there is no better milk for you than raw milk. After researching the benefits of raw milk back in 2005, I realized that not only was raw milk extremely healthy for my family but the milk I was purchasing from the grocery store actually unhealthy for my family. It is upsetting to me that more people don't research the effects of the foods they are putting into their body. A short amount of time spent reading and learning can add many healthy years onto your life. Secondly, the question of, "What happened to responsible journalism?" also came to mind when I read that "It is illegal to sell raw milk in California." Raw milk is not illegal in California. There are many resources for obtaining it here in the state; a simple Internet search could show you that. The article seemed to only attack raw milk without giving any researched facts behind the attack. Sad. Lastly, I would like to personally thank the Alexandre family for their dairy, their cows and their commitment to high quality organic raw milk. It was so incredibly sweet while it lasted. I know I am not the only one to say that the cow-share program will be greatly missed. Heather Scott Crescent City |
