Letters: What good can come from pulling Renner through court?

I am saddened to see that the district attorney has decided to charge Chris Renner and his driver for the unfortunate spill that occurred on Highway 199.

I am all in favor of prosecuting criminals and making people pay for what damage has been done to the pristine river, however in this case, Chris has paid an enormous price already and enough is enough. What good can come of pulling someone who had no control over the circumstances that happened through another drawn out process? Do we not have enough "real" criminals to go after?

From another viewpoint, if we keep up this kind of manhunt for the innocent, who will be willing to truck anything in to us? We have high enough prices as it is without encouraging another businessman to throw in the towel and provide even less competition. I hope the judge has better sense than the DA, who won't be receiving my vote next time around.
