Letters:Harbor damage estimates keep rising exponentially |
Are we just unthinking sheep that blithely go along with whatever is fed us? Or even more ominously, are the agencies funding projects failing in their fiduciary responsibilities? Example: Our "semi-phantom" tsunami was originally estimated at $50,000 in damages, then later raised to the million-dollar range when it was learned that the threshold was $1 million to apply for aid. Now today, Friday the 13th, I read it's been inflated to approximately $25 million. My calculator says that's a 500 times increase from $50,000. I'm not against our harbor improvingcertainly it needs itbut come on. Let's have a reality check against an honest estimate related to the tsunami. No wonder our sewer plant and proposed airport expansion costs keep expanding exponentially. Could it be that we need competitive bids from engineering firms? James Snow Crescent City |
