We’re on the brink of Memorial Day weekend and the kick-off of tourist season. Crescent City may have had a major set back this year because of the tsunami, but there's no denying we’ve gained some notoriety. It’s not too far-fetched to think that people will come to see Crescent City because they’ve heard about the destruction of our harbor and that we’re the “tsunami capital of the West Coast.”
When visitors come this summer — and they will, even if it’s just for a weekend to escape the heat from the inland valleys — what will they see?
I just had to take some photos of what I saw this past weekend as I
drove to positive venues like the barn-raising of a community garden and
the distribution of free life jackets at the harbor. Crescent City and
Del Norte County have a lot to boast about, but before our company comes
let’s get rid of the cob webs and mop up.

TOP LEFT: You can't drive to Battery Point Lighthouse without seeing this on the corner of B and Front Streets. TOP RIGHT: Abandoned motel on the corner of Seventh and J Streets. Notice makeshift curtains over broken window. BOTTOM LEFT: Grass, weeds and trash surround this empty property adjacent to the Hampton Inn. BOTTOM RIGHT: This unsightly mess is on Front Street, next to Beachfront Park.
