Upcoming presidential election will the decide fate of this nation
The following is how one of the founders of this nation, Thomas Jefferson, viewed the country and our Constitution:
“To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, the guarantee to everyone the free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.”
President Obama and other socialists tend to mimic the socialist mantra that, from each according to his ability and to each according to his need.
The coming presidential election will decide the fate of this nation. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock they tried socialism and it didn’t work. They then turned to capitalism and this country prospered.
Obama’s way has been tried, he just doesn’t know it. Wake up America.
Assessor should automatically reduce property tax assessments
I’m not overly pleased with Assessor's Office practices. About two years ago, I received an unpleasant notice in my mail, stating the assessor would like to come into my house as it seemed there “might” be a discrepancy “no matter how small” that it wanted to examine and make assessment on.
The timing was, well, hilarious; I had just refinanced my home and the appraisal showed it had dropped precipitously in value. Moreover, much to my surprise, one day as I was heading out the door, who was on my property? An assessor from the county! He just wanted to pop in and check on that discrepancy, he said. No he did not actually make an appointment.
I told him he could not come in and further, my property taxes should go down, not up, based on the extreme devaluation I eventually showed the Assessor's Office. Let it be known to all: The assessor has no right to even come on your property, let alone unannounced, and may not enter without your say-so or a proper warrant.
Let it also be known: When I yet lived in Southern California, counties would automatically drop the value of your home for tax purposes; you didn’t have to go, hat in hand, begging to have it decreased. Orange County and Riverside County ran their assessors’ shops that way, I’m sure others did too. Why doesn’t ours?
Oh, I'm sure if I asked the Assessor’s Office would claim lack of manpower to do such a thing; I ask, what do we pay our taxes for then?
A little common sense would indicate everyone in this county is almost surely overpaying property taxes and has been for years. It is a shame.
Yes, we need taxes to run the county, but no, it is not right how the Assessor’s Office conducts itself. Even though I had a just-finished property assessment, done by a professional with credentials, I was still charged more when the Assessor’s Office adjusted my billing.
I didn’t bother to fight it. I’m sure I had but little chance to make things right. I say, that the Assessor’s Office should immediately adjust all properties to reflect current market values. Which, as we all know, are plummeting ever the more day by day now. Have they no shame?
