Letters to the Editor November 25, 2009

Thanks to emergency crews that helped Our Daily Bread

We at Our Daily Bread Ministries would like to thank the emergency response team of county workers: Del Norte County Fire, Sheriff, Public Utilities and Health departments, for responding so quickly to the unfortunate disaster that occurred Nov. 16 at our building.

The safety of the public is our greatest concern and we greatly appreciate the efforts and precautions that were taken by our county workers. We deeply regret any inconvenience to the community and neighborhood residents and believe that even in the midst of a disaster such as this, it will be a time for the community to pull together in response to meeting the needs of our less fortunate residents in our community.

We are truly blessed to live in such a caring community.

Sutter Coast E.R., Ambulatory Surgery gave impressive care

Some in our rural community bemoan the lack of services. Well, there is one area where we are blessed with world-class treatment!

Recently I had to use the Sutter Coast Hospital Emergency Room and Ambulatory Surgery. Both services exceeded my expectations and provided a level of care that I have never found elsewhere. The entire staff showed a deep commitment to its patients.

The Ambulatory Surgery even called me at home and asked how I was doing and how they could improve their services to me. I am proud they are part of our community.

Friends of Library donation will put accounts online

Thursday at the meeting of the Del Norte County Library Board of Trustees, the Friends of the Library presented me with a check for $3,000.

This check will be used to help with the purchase of a new server for the library. The new server will allow the library to upgrade its current circulation program to the newest version available from The Library Corporation.

When the new circulation program is installed, library patrons (using their library card number and a pin number) will be able to access their library accounts online through the library web site at www.delnortecountylibrary.org. They will be able to check to see what books they have checked out; they will also be able to renew their books, put holds on books that they’d like to read and they’ll be able to see the library catalog online.

The Friends of the Library have provided wonderful support for the library for as long as I can remember. The friends work very hard to raise funds for the library and they make regular monetary donations to the library.

I would like to thank the friends for this most generous donation and I hope that they all know that they are greatly appreciated for everything that they do for the library.
