Second-graders want to make world a better place
Our second grade class at Mary Peacock School is doing some community service work because we listened to President Obama and he said that we could make the world a better place.
We want to help make the world a better place by keeping our playground clean, helping at home, and we make placemats for the old people who get Meals on Wheels.
At home we can help clean the house, the car and our yard. We can clean our street up and pick up things that we can recycle. We can help take care of our little brothers and sisters, and help take care of our pets. We can help carry in the groceries, do what we are told by our parents without messing around, and remember to say please and thank you.
We like helping our home, our school, our community, and our world be a better place to live.

It’s time to put pressure on lawmakers to pass stimulus
It’s time to put pressure on our nation’s legislators to pass the economic stimulus bill now before them.
This is not a perfect bill, but it is a good bill, with four important elements. First it creates or saves from 3 million to 4 million jobs over the next two years.
Second it will prevent the loss of hundreds of thousands of teachers’ jobs while doubling funding to the Department of Education.
Third it addresses global warming as it creates thousands of green jobs.
And finally it will give the increasing number of unemployed access to affordable health-care coverage.
Waiting for a better bill will only allow this situation to get so bad no amount of legislation will help.
Republicans are ignoring warning signs yet again
Is this what Republicans call patriotism? Russ Limbaugh and others state they want Obama to fail. Some even go so far as to hope for another terrorist attack during his administration in the hopes that the government would return to Republican control.
I suspect this is why some Republicans keep insisting that George Bush kept us safe during his administration, as if the 9/11 attacks didn’t happen during his administration or were somehow unavoidable.
The bipartisan 9/11 Commission stated clearly that his administration ignored the warnings and didn’t perform basic functions that could have prevented the attack.
Now the Republican members of Congress seem determined to sabotage the stimulus bill with tax breaks that all the experts say will slow down the country’s financial recovery.
This apparently is in the hope of undermining the new administration and causing it to fail. I just don’t see how congressional Republicans can continue to claim they are patriotic when they continue to put their party’s welfare ahead of the country’s.
